Brief
We worked with the client through five sustainability reporting cycles (from the 2015 to the 2019 reports) and gradually built internal awareness and a more robust process thanks to the introduction of a materiality analysis, stakeholder engagement activities and external assurance. The time had come to structure in a formal way and consolidate what had been achieved in terms of scope, governance and activities.
Our work
We worked closely with the client to develop a Strategic Sustainability Model for Sisal that sets out the purpose of sustainability (the “why”), the areas of commitment (the “what”) and the tools for implementation (the “how”). Our support involved:
– Drafting of the Strategic Sustainability Model with formalization of the areas of sustainability commitment and organization of sub-themes
– Identification of objectives, related performance indicators and targets for each theme
– Stakeholder engagement aimed at building the materiality matrix for 2019 Sustainability report;
– Revision of 2019 Sustainability report on the basis of the Strategic Sustainability Model: new structure, new contents, new narrative focused on sustainability commitments.

Result
The work we have done with Sisal over the years has allowed us to support them in building a solid approach to sustainability, both from an internal and an external point of view. Formalizing the approach into a strategic model is only the last step of a process of awareness of what Sisal is and wants to do in the field of sustainability. The next step will be to make sustainability an integral part of the corporate identity, starting from the identification of a purpose to the full integration into its business activities.
