The findings from the 20th edition of the Webranking research, covered exclusively by L’Economia del Corriere della Sera, reveal that Italian companies continue to be top performers in Europe.

In Italy more companies earn 5 stars, a sign of excellence

Ten companies have now reached excellence and have been awarded the highest of reputations (5 stars, over 80 points out of 100), and thirteen have entered the second tier (4 stars, above 65 points).

Our 5-star companies are Terna, Snam, Poste Italiane, Eni, Generali, Italgas, Hera Group, Acea, A2A and ERG which are all companies that have often excelled in their corporate communications and shown continuous commitment towards transparency. Acea and A2A are new entries to this high-performing group in this year’s research.

Through a protocol that includes nearly 280 criteria, Webranking evaluates transparency in the communication of financial, corporate governance, sustainability data, and overall company information. All this while taking into consideration the real expectations of stakeholders, which have been assessed thanks to surveys conducted every year.

Best improver: A2A is the best improver out of all companies assessed by Webranking 2021-2022

Compared to last year, the number of companies that have improved their performance by more than 5 points has doubled, highlighting how Italian companies are increasingly careful to offer communication capable of going beyond regulatory compliance.

The Italians at the top of Europe

The first 5 companies in the Italian list also made it in the top 5 of Webranking Europe 500. Moreover, there are another 5 Italian companies among the Top 25 of the ranking, thanks to an overall average performance that is up from last year.

Below in detail the Top 10 of the Europe500 ranking and the positioning of the other Italian companies included in the research.

The European sample includes 27 Italian companies. It considers the major European companies by capitalisation according to the STOXX All Europe.

Twenty years of Webranking in Italy

In the first edition of the research, Italy was in 18th place in Europe, ahead only of Greece. Today the Italian companies are found at the forefront of European research. In these 20 years, the research has anticipated trends of corporate and digital communication, raising from year to year the bar and promoting a culture of transparency in companies.
